When we planned our North Luzon road trip, one destination we couldn’t miss was the famous Hundred Islands in Pangasinan. With over 100 islets scattered across crystal-clear waters, it’s a place that invites both adventure and wonder. Though we only had one day to explore, the experience left us with unforgettable memories—and a strong desire to go back and see even more.
What Are the Hundred Islands in Pangasinan?
Located in Alaminos City, Pangasinan, the Hundred Islands National Park is one of the top island-hopping destinations in the Philippines. The park features 124 islands during low tide and 123 at high tide, believed to be over two million years old. The islands are known for their limestone cliffs, white sand beaches, and marine biodiversity. While many islands remain untouched, a few have been developed for tourists, with activities like snorkeling, ziplining, kayaking, and cliff diving available.
How to Get to Hundred Islands
From Manila, the drive to Alaminos Pangasinan takes around 5 to 6 hours by private car or bus. Once you arrive, head to Lucap Wharf, the main jump-off point for island hopping tours. This is where you’ll find boat rentals, licensed tour guides, and the visitor center for entrance and environmental fees. The area also offers plenty of accommodation and local eateries, making it a convenient base for your adventure.
In our case, we came from Banaue as part of our North Luzon trip. We left a little past 8 AM and reached our accommodation in Alaminos, Pangasinan around 7 PM. The long drive included breakfast and lunch stops, plus a few restroom breaks along the way. It was definitely a full travel day, but the anticipation of exploring the Hundred Islands the next morning made it all worth it.
Our Travel Experience: Island Hopping Adventure
We began our Hundred Islands island hopping tour at 8 AM, eager to explore as many islands as we could. But with just one day to spare, we quickly realized that one day isn’t enough to fully enjoy this natural wonder.
By 2 PM, we had visited only six islands, but each stop was packed with new experiences, from swimming at Children’s Island to crossing the hanging bridge at Sandal Island.

Swimming at Children’s Island
This family-friendly island features calm and shallow waters, perfect for a relaxing swim. We enjoyed the peaceful vibe and took our time soaking in the sun.
Crossing the Hanging Bridge at Sandal Island
Sandal Island offers a short hike and an exciting hanging bridge that connects two viewpoints. The panoramic view from the top was stunning and definitely worth the short climb.
Each island we visited had its own charm. Some offered quiet spots to lounge, while others featured thrilling activities like cliff jumping, snorkeling, and hiking trails.
Where to Stay in Alaminos, Pangasinan
Since we were on a road trip, we only stayed one night near Lucap Wharf. But if you’re planning a visit, there are accommodations for all types of travelers—from budget-friendly homestays to beachfront resorts. Staying closer to the wharf is ideal if you want to start your island hopping early and beat the heat.
Travel Tips for First-Time Visitors
Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your visit to the Hundred Islands in Alaminos Pangasinan:
• Start early. Most tours begin between 7–8 AM. Starting early gives you more time to explore.
• Pack light but smart. Bring drinking water, light snacks, reef-safe sunblock, and waterproof bags.
• Wear aqua shoes. Some islands have rocks and corals, so water shoes are a great idea.
• Bring cash. Small fees may apply for snorkeling gear, zipline access, and other activities.
• Respect nature. Follow the park’s eco-guidelines—don’t litter and avoid disturbing marine life.
Why Hundred Islands Is Worth the Trip
Even with limited time, our visit to the Hundred Islands was absolutely worth it. Each stop felt like a new adventure—from swimming in Children’s Island to walking the scenic bridge at Sandal Island. Whether you’re seeking nature, fun activities, or peaceful scenery, there’s something here for everyone.
This trip reminded us how breathtaking local travel in the Philippines can be. If you’re planning a getaway in Luzon, the Hundred Islands in Pangasinan should definitely be on your list.
